Marian Murphy

Royston, Hertfordshire, U.K

As an embroiderer Marian varies her material repertoire to suit the pieces she is making. Plaster, wire, wood and paint are frequently employed combined with fabric and stitch. It is the versatility and the sometimes unpredictable changes that take place whilst the different materials come together that she exploits and develops to make her objects.

Themes in her work are developed from an interest in the clothed human form. Marian makes use of the museum and art gallery for her research looking at many depictions of the human form both ancient and modern as well as the many variations of costume.
