Eileen Harrisson

Dolgellau, Gwynedd, Wales, U.K

With a love of hand stitch, colour and rhythmic line, I produce wall pieces, hangings and artist's books and I write and perform my own poetry. I was awarded funding from the Arts Council of Wales to develop music I had written in collaboration with my son, professional musician Edward Harrisson which was subsequently made into a film and I draw the various elements of my work together in installations. My work is cyclical in nature in that stitch inspires words which lead into further stitch and processes include silk painting fabrics, especially semi-transparent organza, in a wet-on-wet technique. These materials and found objects are layered through hand stitch onto a linen base, pieces often incorporating digitally printed photographs or drawings. Work continues towards my PhD in Fine Art at Aberystwyth University in which I am exploring the relationship between stitch, word and sound through the prism of my experiences of the Troubles in Northern Ireland and I am currently preparing for my PhD Exhibition in March 2021. In addition to the drama of humanity, subject-matter includes light in nature on land and sea and issues of ecology. Wind of the spirit blows through all and informs all.
