Amanda Hislop

Wantage, Oxfordshire, U.K

Amanda finds inspiration in the ever changing textures colours and rhythms of land sea sky and trees. A deep connection with and observation of the landscape and forms within has become an intuitive skill. Keeping a sketchbook is an integral part of the development process for Amanda, through mixed media experimentation, close observation, expressive drawing and mark making she documents and accumulates ideas which influence outcomes and form a rich resource calling for personal interpretation in paper, cloth, paint and stitch.

Amanda combines drawn and painted marks with thread paper and fabric using machine and hand stitch to add depth and texture, a process involving manipulation of paper and fabric through which she is able to work with freedom to integrate line, colour and texture into the surface of the unique work.

The scale of work ranges from individual hangings, folded forms and small wall mounted panels. Amanda uses her teaching skills to run inspirational workshops exploring textile processes and sketchbooks, these draw upon the creative energy of each individual participant.
