Susie Vickery

From the Bayeux Tapestry to the latest computer animation, storytelling has always been enhanced by imagery and techniques reflecting the age when it was made. Inspired by didactic medieval and eastern religious art, Susie uses a combination of modern digital technology and animated hand embroidered puppets to tell the stories of people’s lives. She photographs and interviews tailors, garment factory workers, and tradespeople in India, China and the United Kingdom. Glimpses of their lives are recorded using the materials and techniques of their work. Some of the interviews and stories are then animated using stop motion.
