Yumiko Reynolds

Since completion of a City & Guild course in embroidery, Yumiko has concentrated on drawing and painting. However, her passion towards texture and textiles led her to take a Diploma in HE Stitched Textiles in 2004/2007.
Yumiko is currently attending a portrait painting class at Putney School of Art in order to keep developing her portraiture skills. Her belief is that the better she can draw and paint, the better she should be able to create her stitched portraiture. In addition, she completed an “Access to HE diploma in Multimedia Technology” course with distinction in 2010/11, in which she gained digital design skills.

TEXTILE PRACTICE
Yumiko’s works are called ‘Stitch-Drawings’. This is an original technique which I have been developing since she completed HE Diploma in Stitched Textiles.
She uses a sewing machine and surface manipulation to create images. Her current investigation is into creating human forms/portraits with tonal values using various thicknesses of threads on painted and manipulated brown paper.
She is working series of “Mother and Child”, “Black Rain Never Again” (about Hiroshima Atomic Bomb) and “Anorexia”.
