Willeke Klaassen

For Willeke nature is a never ending source of wonder and joy. It forms in layers upon layers, and is shown by the changing of times. There is a special beauty in the weathering of life, seen in ageing skin. Wondrous stories from days or even centuries past are hiding, but appearing for those who can appreciate them. This layering communicates a feeling; Willeke tries to capture this in her work.

TEXTILE PRACTICE
Willeke loves shaping her own fabrics, especially forging a soft sculpture from wool fibres and other materials. She takes apart and builds up again, cutting strips of plastic to form lifelines, manipulate fabric through wrapping or stitching, adding colour with thread, paint and buttons or beads.
Her work appears in a Dutch felt book, and has been exhibited regionally and internationally
