Linda Pearl Izan

Linda follows in the tradition of women who embrace the dexterity of working with fibre, embroidery thread and a host of other textile skills to comment on their place in time and space. Under the broad banner of what is valued and what is disregarded by society, her inspiration is found in women’s issues, political comment and the scandalous over use of the planet’s resources.

TEXTILE PRACTICE
Using new technologies in partnership with time honoured textile practices Linda’s creative process calls on digital imagery, applique and hand embroidery. The choice of a particular textile medium is always cogent to the message that is being explored. If the message within the work is focused on the disposable material society, Linda will use gold leaf or marbled velvet to emphasise what is valued and what is not.
When the narrative is on human rights Linda will interweave text within the work to ensure that the message is explicit, turning stitch into commentary.
