Amanda Hislop

Amanda works with the subtle colours and textures inherent in sea and landscapes, land lines, drawn lines and stitch lines are her inspiration. She responds to the timeless themes of land, sea, sky and trees; her work reflects the layers of nature, sky over sea over stone, become thread over paper over paint. Amanda seeks to blur the boundaries between art and craft; having studied woven textiles with painting at West Surrey College of Art and Design in the 1980’s, followed by a PGCE in visual arts, this established an intuitive understanding of the tactile nature of textile materials.

TEXTILE PRACTICE
Amanda combines drawn and painted marks with thread, paper and fabric, her use of mixed media with machine embroidery adds depth and texture to her work, she has developed a process involving the manipulation of paper and fabric through which she is able to work with complete freedom, integrating line, colour and texture into the surface of her unique work. The scale of work ranges from large individual hangings to small wall mounted panels. Amanda uses her teaching skills to run inspirational workshops exploring textile processes and drawing on the personal creative energy of individuals.
