Sheila Cahn

Sheila’s work celebrates the relativity of colour, and explores her emotional responses to the magical qualities of ever changing light on land and seascapes

TEXTILE PRACTICE
She works with translucent natural fabrics, which she hand dyes, then layers as would a painter working with water colours, before machine stitching. Cutting through the leayers she reveals an infinite variety of subtle colour relationships.

The light is reflected in different ways by the surface qualities of the fabrics, whether shiny or matt, smooth or rough, adding a further dimension to the work
