Ali Brown

Ali’s practice focuses on haptic imperfection, celebrating the transience of time, decay, and the overlooked. As a bricoleur and bowerbird, bits and stuff are foraged, reworked, and repaired to create unique objects, recording the memory of a walk or place, embedding the identity of the form to a moment in time.

TEXTILE PRACTICE
Realising the idea, the form, the sketch using whatever material is expedient to the task - clay, wood, metal, is Ali’s mode of making, fabric and stitch underpins it all. Recent work has concentrated on adornment - rings with colour exploding lava-like, amulets filled with intention and studded with wishes, Feather Boas made of porcelain feathers stitched with leather, hypnotically chime as they catch a gust of air. There is a desire to surprise and stretch perceptions of the appropriate, encouraging the viewer to look again with a greater intensity.
