Maria Boyle

Maria is driven by her passion for colour and texture, particularly from observing nature and interesting surfaces or shapes in the manmade world. Texture is added in layers to convey mark and colour psychology is important to convey meaning through a harmonious colour palette. Together they create tactile and organic pieces in cloth and paper that respond to a well-researched theme or brief.

Maria carefully develops specific hues through dye, print and painting, and unique textures are created using stitch, knit and needle felting. By layering various marks and techniques Maria creates one-off pieces with sensory appeal.
Selected as the Textile Study Group Graduate of the Year and an Embroiderers Guild Graduate in 2014, she was Artist in Residence at Banbury and Bicester College in 2014/15. Now as a Resident Artist at ArtistsWorkshouse in Studley, Warwickshire Maria runs workshops, and responds to briefs for exhibitions and private commissions.
